This is a continuation of an experimental research project exploring the phenomena of luminescence through naturally occurring fluorescent minerals. Their hidden beauty is invisible to the human eye; it is only when illuminated with UV light that the dazzling palette of colours is revealed. Through photography, with minimal intervention or enhancement, we hoped to bring to light this stunning natural phenomenon; up close using an iPhone 6 with an additional macro lens. The best of these photographs were finally collated into a 60 page photo-book; serving as the culmination of the project.
Alongside photography, we also created several experimental animated GIFs using laser-cut stencils and the fine dust produced by the minerals. Through this we hoped to breathe life into these otherwise static objects via the medium of stop motion animation.
